Introduction to GIFTS

Note: Introduction to GIFTS classes will be taught using GIFTS 6.

We have updated our Introduction to GIFTS class for the 2008 calendar year to focus solely on core concepts and functionality that would appeal to any type of GIFTS user. If you will also be the GIFTS administrator it is necessary to attend the Effective GIFTS Administrator class. If you are interested in creating ad-hoc reports we recommend the Tailoring Reports Class.

What is this course?
This introduction class will focus on the key concepts that are the foundation of understanding GIFTS. Clients will also experience hands-on use of GIFTS. Class activities are designed to allow you to relate concepts to your organization's grant making and practice using GIFTS software.

How long is this course?
We offer a two-day, hands-on 'Intro to GIFTS' class in New York or San Francisco and various regional locations. This class starts promptly at 9AM and runs until approximately 5PM.

Attend this class if:

  • Your organization has recently purchased GIFTS
  • You are a new employee at an organization currently using GIFTS
  • You have recently changed positions and are now working in the GIFTS system
  • You are currently using GIFTS but are not sure you are taking full advantage of the features in GIFTS

What will be covered?
This course is designed to provide an understanding of the functions and applications of the GIFTS software to your grantmaking program. Topics include key functions such as data entry, queries, correspondence, and generating standard reports. Participants will learn how to:

Develop & understand the importance of documenting your organization's workflow
Navigate in GIFTS
Understand GIFTS terminology
Process Requests from receipt to final decision
Process Payments for Grants
Track requirements for Grants and Payments
Generate Letter & Email Correspondence
Search for Organizations, Contacts, Requests, Payments & Requirements
Generate Standard Reports using the Reports Library
Enter Contacts, change Primary Contacts & affiliate Contacts to Organizations and Requests
Obtain help from Technical Support, the Knowledgebase and GIFTS Manuals

Student Prerequisites:
To be successful in the Introduction to GIFTS class all attendees must possess the following:

Basic computer skills. Attendees should be comfortable with standard computer and Windows concepts, including right clicking, double clicking, click and drag, minimizing and maximizing windows, using CTRL and Shift to select multiple items.
Familiarity with your organization's grant making process. In order to fully take advantage of the Introduction to GIFTS class, it is critical that attendees be familiar with their organization's grant making processes. It is strongly recommended that clients have worked at your organization for at least one month prior to attending.

Please Note: This class is not intended for clients using Essential GIFTS.
